Deep backbending has been an incredibly emotional, therapeutic, and meditative journey for me lately. One of the deepest lessons in the practice of yoga is about bringing energy up the spine and cleansing the nervous system. Backbends thrust your full life force up through this central channel and burn through blockages along the way. Oftentimes this means that suppressed emotions such as fear, stress, anger, grief, and pain are released and brought to the surface in a way that forces the practitioner to deal with and overcome them. Through backbending I am learning. I am learning to love, to forgive, to be at peace with the things that I feel, positive or negative. Go deep into the emotions that scare you and beyond them you will find an insurmountable bliss.
the first thing you touch in the morning,
and the last thing you taste at night.
Writers are forgetful,
but they remember everything.
They forget appointments and anniversaries,
but remember what you wore,
how you smelled,
on your first date…
They remember every story you’ve ever told them -
but forget what you’ve just said.
They don’t remember to water the plants
or take out the trash,
but they don’t forget how
to make you laugh.
Writers are forgetful
the important things.
Oh, my heart is melting.
